Keeping Your Students Healthy During Cold and Flu Season!
Cold and flu season are officially here, bringing with it a cacophony of classroom sniffles, sneezes, and coughs!
As your friendly neighborhood school nurse, I see things! Mostly, I have seen students (and adults- did we not learn anything after Covid??) using their bare hands to catch those sneezes and coughs! Gross! 🤢Germs love elementary schools and it's easy to see why... It's an all-you-can-eat microscopic buffet!
Fortunately, we have some tools to fight back: hand hygiene and the annual flu vaccine.
The Power of the Scrub (hand hygiene):
- Kids are learning the importance of hand hygiene at school through GloGerm demonstrations! Here's what they are learning:
- Scrub for 20 seconds!
- Don't forget the backs of hands, between fingers, and fingernails (germ caves).
- The Elbow Shield: sneeze or cough directly into their inner elbow, not their hands!! 🤲🏼
Your Shield Against the Flu Virus:
- See above!
- Flu vaccine! Helps lower the risk of your child getting sick.
Let's all work together to keep our students happy, healthy, and washing those hands!
