Dear Parents/Guardians,

Classroom placements will start in April as we begin planning for the next school year. We recognize the importance of creating a supportive and effective learning environment for each child and welcome your input. If you want to share insights about the educational environment that best suits your child, we invite you to submit a letter. While we value your perspective, we cannot accommodate specific teacher requests and will not consider any letters naming a teacher. We will carefully review all submissions as we work to create balanced and successful classroom placements. Please email your educational environment letter to Mrs. Rascoe at candace.rascoe@dodea.edu by April 11, 2025.

Our school counselors collaborate with current grade-level teachers and specialists to thoughtfully form next year's classes, ensuring that each child is placed in an environment where they can thrive. If you wish to request a classroom change after placements, please review the placement committee steps outlined below.

The student placement committee process is as follows:

  1. The parents must make a reasonable effort to resolve the situation with the teacher.
  2. If nothing can be resolved after a two-week period, you will need to contact the grade-level Counselor and the Administration.
  3. The grade-level Counselor will create a Placement Committee comprised of approximately five people (two classroom teachers, two Specialists, and one administrator).
  4. The grade-level Counselor will invite the parents, current teacher, and committee panel to meet on a day that is convenient for all parties.
  5. The parents will explain their situation to the panel while remaining focused on the student.
  6. The panel will have an opportunity to ask clarifying questions within the scope of the situation.
  7. The parents will be escorted out.
  8. The current teacher will be escorted in.
  9. The teacher will explain the student's academics and any other information within the scope of the situation.
  10. The panel will have an opportunity to ask clarifying questions within the scope of the situation.
  11. The teacher will be escorted out.
  12. The panel will discuss the information given until everyone understands the situation. Then, the panel will decide if a move is necessary and where the student will move.
  13. The Counselor will call for a vote.
  14. The Counselor will record the vote and give the results to Mr. Rivera.
  15. Mr. Rivera can accept or not accept any limitations or constructs advised by the committee.
  16. The decision is final once a placement committee has completed the vote at hand, and Mr. Rivera has signed off.
  17. The Counselor will notify the parents of the committee's decision.

Please let us know if you have any questions.

Educationally Yours,

Candace Rascoe
