Dear NES Dolphin Families,

Thanks to everyone who joined us for Coffee & Cornetti with Admin on Friday, April 25! It was a pleasure connecting with so many of you in person and sharing updates about life at Naples Elementary School.

Here are a few highlights from our morning together:

Topics Discussed:

  • A reminder that SAC is May 1, 2025, from 1600-1700 in the library.
  • Grade-level field trips approved are happening until May 15, 2025.
  • Summative testing has been taking place and will be completed within the next 2 weeks.
  • Teacher Appreciation Week is May 5-9, 2025.
  • Spring clubs such as kickball, tennis, and gardening art have begun.
  • The HVAC project is on schedule. It is under technical evaluation with the Navy, and once that is completed, it will be given to DoDEA for review. Then, design implementation will take place, and work is projected to begin at the end of 2026.
  • The filtered water fountains project has been submitted but is on hold due to congressional funding being on hold.
  • The PTA currently does not have a board for SY 25-26. If you would like to nominate someone for a position or would like a position yourself, please reach out to PTA.

Questions from participants:

  • When will the UPK refrigerator be purchased? Our funding was placed on hold, and we were just recently informed that we can move forward with the purchase request. The purchase is currently being processed.
  • UPK snacks: Are they getting yogurt and fresh fruit if they buy these items monthly? What about outdoor choice time for a snack? How are they getting water to drink? The UPK students are provided with self-serve snack options during choice time. The students have fresh fruit daily and yogurt at least once a week. The filtered water fountain located by the gym is available to all students. The UPK teachers know this and have used the option as needed.
  • Nurse: Can recess monitors send a nurse pass with students to the nurse and notify the teacher? Can substitute teachers have the nurse passes as well? Can the nurse purchase larger Band-Aids? When do parents get notified that students are going to the nurse? The recess monitors have been given nurse passes and reminded to inform the classroom teacher when they send a student to the nurse. Classroom teachers were provided with a copy of the nurse pass and reminded to include it in their substitute teacher plans. The nurse has requested large Band-Aids. Parents are communicated through the nurse pass being sent home or classroom teacher communication if a student goes to the nurse for a minor incident. If it is an incident requiring direct communication from the school nurse, such as sickness requiring the student to be picked up, the nurse will communicate via email or phone call. If you have questions or concerns, please contact the school nurse directly.
  • Can the PTA fund an additional field trip for grade levels? Field trips that take place during regular school hours are school-funded events. If the PTA is interested in coordinating and funding a school field trip, please note that it must occur outside regular school hours.

We appreciate your continued partnership and commitment to our school community. If you couldn’t attend this session, we hope to see you at a future Coffee & Cornetti!
