Administration

Dear Parents,

Here are a few important updates from our school:

Counselor Classroom Lessons

Our counselors have been doing a fantastic job in providing engaging and educational classroom lessons. Thus far, they have conducted two monthly sessions with students at each grade level. The students have shown great enthusiasm, and we are pleased to see them actively participating in these valuable sessions.

Recess Update

Due to safety concerns, we have decided to temporarily suspend soccer during recess. We kindly remind all students that we do not permit any student-to-student while on school grounds, including during games such as tag. This regulation is for the safety and well-being of everyone.

Outdoor Games Donation

We offer a huge thank you to our amazing PTA for donating outdoor games like Connect 4 and cornhole to enhance recess time. However, we have noticed that some game pieces have been thrown down drains or damaged. Please take a moment to talk to your child about the importance of taking care of school property so that all students can enjoy these games during recess.

Maintaining a Safe and Respectful Environment

We are committed to maintaining a safe and respectful learning environment for all students. When disciplinary matters arise, please know that we take them seriously and address each situation by our policies and procedures.

While we understand your concerns, student privacy laws prevent us from sharing specific details regarding other students or any disciplinary actions. Please rest assured that we are handling incidents appropriately and taking the necessary steps to ensure a positive and secure environment for all.

We appreciate your understanding and support in reinforcing our commitment to a safe and respectful school community.

Thank you for your continued support and helping us maintain a respectful, safe, and positive school community.

Grade-Level Highlights: A Peak into Our Week

Universal Pre-Kindergarten

PreK students will focus on bakery vocabulary: baker, delivery, and pastry chef. We will define a delivery person as someone who takes products from one place to another. We will define a pastry chef as a person who specializes in baking pastries or sweet baked food, such as cakes and cookies. We will also continue making even more kinds of bread!

Kindergarten

The Kinder students are enjoying playing on the big playground. They are learning the rules and how to play safely in a bigger environment.

We will continue exploring tricky teens in math. We are learning that every tricky teen has a group of ten ones and some ones left over. We can also show this in an equation: 10+5=15. Counting precisely is hard with bigger numbers. We use the "10 frames and ring a 10" strategy to help us stay precise.

Please continue to read with your child daily. We also encourage you to play board games that involve taking turns and following the rules.

First Grade

Next week in ELA, we will continue working on Unit 5, Week 2. Our phonics sound will focus on soft g and soft c. Our shared reading will be Using Technology at Work. We will focus on describing and writing about sequences of events. We will also continue working on Unit 8: Meanings of Subtraction and Sound & Light in Science.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Second Grade

The NES Music Department and the 2nd-grade teachers are pleased to invite you to our second-grade performance: "Kick Off to Music in Our Schools Month, featuring our Jazzy Second Grade." Music in Our Schools Month is in March. What better way to get excited about music than with a performance by our talented second-grade musicians? The location, date, and time for the parent/family performance will remain the same: the NES Multi-Purpose Room (the cafeteria) on Thursday, 27 February at 0830. As a reminder, please plan to arrive at the school no later than 0820 so you can be seated in time for the performance.

We are excited to showcase your student's hard work in music and hope to see you there!

Third Grade

This week in 3rd Grade, we finished our math Unit 8, comparing equivalent fractions, and our ELA Unit 4, Comparing Points of View. Students have been learning how to write opinion essays based on who they thought was the ‘true villain’ from Jack & the Beanstalk (Jack or the Giant?). In science, we learn about magnetism. In social studies, we learn about our local geographical area compared to the USA. We finished this short week with our 3rd Grade Friendship Day when students could share their appreciation for their classmates by giving cards and goodies. Next Wednesday, please make sure your child’s Chromebook is fully charged so they can be ready to learn after the long weekend. Thank you!

Fourth Grade

We hope everyone enjoys a long weekend! Next week, we will continue Unit 9 in math: adding and subtracting fractions.

Nurse Newsletter

Let's talk about hydration!

For physiological reasons, maintaining adequate fluid intake and optimal hydration is essential for kids, as is adopting healthy, sustainable drinking habits.

Did you know…

  • Water is the most abundant component of the human body, making up approximately 60% of its mass.
  • Water intake supports many bodily functions that are essential in daily life, such as thermoregulation (maintaining a steady internal body temperature), waste elimination (helping mitigate constipation), and numerous metabolic reactions (helping transport carbohydrates, proteins, and nucleic acids).

What can parents do?

  • Be a good role model! Children copy and acquire dietary behaviors from you! Are you a positive influence on healthy choices?
  • Be sure to send a water bottle to school with your child. Teach your student the importance of water intake and hydration for cognitive and physical performance!
  • Associate water intake with "moments," such as waking up, eating breakfast, lunch, and dinner, or taking morning/afternoon water breaks. Establish a routine throughout the day without relying on one's thirst.
  • Make it taste good with fruits or herbs! Avoid flavor enhancers- they tend to contain sugar alcohols (bad), artificial sweeteners (harmful), or caffeine (not recommended for kids).

Introducing water to your student early and encouraging healthy drink choices/habits are essential to support adequate fluid intake and optimal hydration now and as an adult!
