Happy Weekend, Dolphin Community!

We hope this newsletter finds you well and in good spirits. We are thrilled to share the extraordinary events this past week as we continue celebrating Music in Our Schools Month.

Our spirit week was a resounding success, filled with enthusiasm and creativity from our students. The week's highlight was the joint concert between Naples Elementary School and Naples Middle High School, orchestrated by Mr. Ondak, Ms. Wootton, and Mr. Pavlik. The performances were truly inspiring and showcased the incredible talent of our students.

Additionally, the 4th-grade recorder concert, conducted by Mr. Ondak and Ms. Wootton, was a delightful event that brought joy to the students and parents who attended. We are proud of our students' hard work and dedication to their musical education.

We want to remind everyone of the DoDEA School Dress Code policy as the weather gets warmer. Students must dress appropriately for school, ensuring their attire is comfortable, respectful, and conducive to a positive learning environment. Please review the policy with your children to ensure compliance.

We wish our Robotics Team the best of luck as they compete in the DoDEA FIRST LEGO League (FLL) Virtual Competition on Monday, March 24. We are confident they will represent our school with pride and excellence.

Please note that the 3rd quarter ends next week, followed by spring recess. The last day for students is Wednesday, March 26. School will resume on Monday, April 7.

Correction: The Dancing through the Decades Dance hosted by the Student Council will occur on Friday, April 25.

Thank you for your continued support and involvement in our school community. We look forward to sharing more wonderful moments with you soon.

Warm regards,

Mr. Rivera and Ms. Rascoe

Grade-Level Highlights: A Peak into Our Week

PreK students will discuss how different pets live with us in cages. We will introduce the terms enclosure and aquarium. We will learn that an enclosure is a closed-in space, such as a fenced yard or a plastic container, and that an aquarium is a glass tank where fish or animals are kept. Like us, each type of pet has its own kind of home. We call the place or type of place where an animal normally lives in its habitat.

Kindergarten will review all language arts skills this week. Students will take the Benchmark Advance interim assessment. Teachers will be finishing administering the end of 3rd quarter assessments. This information will help us plan for the 4th quarter. We are excited to share your child’s progress with you after Spring break.

In math, we will practice composing two-dimensional shapes with smaller shapes. We will manipulate pattern blocks to help us build these shapes, which is great practice for our fine motor skills. We will also try to trace pattern blocks to show how we can build two-dimensional shapes.

We hope all Kindergarten families have a great Spring break. We will see you on Monday, April 7.

Next week in ELA, we will finish up Unit 6, Week 3.

Phonics: long a vowel teams (ai, ay)

Shared Reading: Why Mosquitoes Buzz in People’s Ears

Reading Strategies: listen and retell key story events, describe characters, describe the sequence of events, identify the central message, compare and contrast central messages in two literary texts

Grammar Skill(s): using conjunctions in compound sentences, using simple and compound sentences

    Writing: Process writing: Personal Narrative

In Math, we will continue with Unit 10 lessons.

    • Comparing problems with greater quantity
    • Compare problems with both greater and lesser quantities
    • Compare problems using addition or subtraction equations

In Social Studies, we will begin Lesson 9: What do good neighbors do?

If you have specific questions, please get in touch with your child’s teacher. Have a wonderful weekend! 😊

This week in 3rd Grade, we have practiced more 2-step word problems and learned how to assess a given answer's reasonableness (using mental math or estimation strategies such as rounding). We are finishing Unit 10 this week and will start Unit 11 next week, focusing on the perimeter.

In ELA, we have started our new fiction unit, Making Decisions. Students have been reading folktales and other stories to identify the problems and solutions to help them summarize the key events.

In Science, we have continued to investigate forces; in Social Studies, we have been learning about a free market economy.

This week, the 3rd Grade also supported the 4th Grade by watching their wonderful recorder concert!

    Friendly reminders:

    • Charge Chromebook daily!
    • Daily multiplication fact practice! (3rd Grade End of Year assessments begin April 21st, so knowing as many multiplication/division facts as possible will be very beneficial)

This week, our 4th graders are reading The Oregon Trail, a nonfiction text. They will practice key comprehension skills, including identifying the main idea and key details, analyzing historical events, and exploring text and graphic features.

In writing, students continue developing their News Reports, strengthening their informational writing skills.

In math, we are reviewing key concepts to reinforce learning.

In Social Studies, students are finishing their Southwest dioramas, which showcase their creativity and understanding of the region.

Additionally, all 4th-grade classes will visit the library this week to explore new books and strengthen their love for reading!

For ELA, we are working through Unit 7. There will not be a spelling test this week.

In Math, we are starting Unit 11, focusing on dividing fractions.

For Health, students focus on nutrition and the importance of making good food choices.

For Science, we are delving into the earth and sun unit, focusing on planetary systems.

For Social Studies, we are starting to work through lessons 8 and 9, focusing on Latin America.

Please see the "NES News" tab on the 5th Grade Website for more information about what's happening in 5th grade.

6th graders are studying genetics in science, the fall of the Roman Empire in social studies, argumentative essays in ELA, and finishing the algebraic module in math.
