Call to order was made by President

Open Forum Recommendations for the Agenda (from meeting attendees) were identified:

  • Leadership roles that will be open due to PCS: SAC President
    • Regulations were discussed and indicate that President role cannot be a staff member of NES
    • Two parent representatives will be needed as there are only 3 parents on the Board at this time
    • Plan: School will post notification for unfilled positions through social media avenues
  • UPK kitchen
  • Fall grade-level walking field trip

Administration’s Remarks

  • Student-Staff kickball is upcoming
  • Next week is teacher appreciation week
  • On June 3rd from 4-5pm there will be a Move-Up event. The teachers will volunteer to come and display the grade level curriculum. They will display QR codes to look at the standards for the grade level.
  • PTA board is empty at this time and if volunteers are not identified it will impact where funding is housed (It would be given back to European PTA based on current understanding)
    • Required PTA positions needed: President, Treasurer
    • Plan: Update this information within social communication avenues that NES uses, XO to also support communication through AO
  • New Contract Specialist with the NEX has been very responsive to school lunch issues.  AP noted that the individuals at the NEX need to visual documentation in order to identify and respond to lunch issues that arise.  AP has noted she has taken pictures when she is notified of lunch issues to assist.
  • May 7th (10 – 11 a.m.) NES ET will be providing a Informational Parent activity related to technology. A flyer will be going out shortly
  • Discussed concern regarding the community dumping the trash in the school trash bins.  School has different contract than the rest of the base and it involves a different process when anyone dumps non-school trash in school dumpsters.  XO stated that anyone observed dumping on school grounds should be reported.
  • 3 UPK teacher aides needed for 2.5 hours per day and advertised through USAJOBS (26 hour/pay period) for next school year to assist with rest time, school dismissal, etc

CO/XO/SLO Comments

  • Getting closer to SLO starting as current SLO will be PCSing

IAC Brief – Parent Volunteer Rep: Review of Recent IAC meeting

  • Recent IAC meeting question initiated: Why does AAFES look so different than what can be provided on this base through the NEX program related to lunch options? Parent Volunteer Rep expects a response to this question at the next IAC meeting in May
  • Additional question initiated: Elements of the contract with the current NEX vendor.  Parent volunteer rep notes that they are awaiting response to this question as well
  • UPK lunches were also discussed at recent IAC Meeting
    • Plan within IAC meetings is to continue to inquire about NEX vendor issues that arise related to school lunches
  • Reviewed the notes regarding the “back to school bash” versus the “back to reality bash” that was brought up at IAC. The XO noted he will follow up on the status of the event.
  • IAC has established a new form and the leadership roles have changed. The SLO will now manage the IAC agenda.
  • UPK will join the school round up event.
XO reviewed adhering to the old DoDeA policy.
  • Security has increased to assist with the traffic pattern.
  • EFMP process was brought up regarding the lack of civilian and active duty personal who are being screened before arrival.
  • Student breakfast was discussed and survey was completed – minimal interest within responses when looking a full student population
  • Next IAC meeting: May 28th held at middle/high school

Review of issues raised at previous meeting

  • Watchdog Program / Parent Volunteers – Not discussed today
  • Youtube/Internet access concerns
    • LightSpeed filter on Youtube to reduce access at the school
    • Reviewed necessity of lower elementary taking student computers home (3rd grade), however, the issue continues to be the need for a COW as well as security.  A COW locks and an OCTOPUS does not

UPK Kitchen:

  • Updates were provided via email and at Admin Coffee time recently.  Assistant Principal reviewed Funds were put on hold recently for refrigerator in UPK, however, the fridge is in the process of being replaced now.
  • Recap email from Admin Coffee time was noted as very helpful by XO.  Attendees all agreed in this regard.

Fall grade-level walking field trip Inquiry:

  • AP notes that 3rd grade and possibly 5th grade are currently doing a walking field trip this spring, however, Fall field trip is a great idea and will continue to be looked into. AP will relay this request to grade level chairs at next meeting.
  • AP noted the process for on base field-trip: teachers notify administrators that they would like to go on a walking field trip, and once approved notify parents.  Adult-student ratio still needs to be maintained (6:1)
  • Additional ideas were reviewed: “Egg Drop,” partner with middle/high school
