Naples Elementary School embraced the joy of reading and math during Literacy and Math Week, a five-day celebration filled with engaging activities for students, teachers and families.

Each day featured a different theme, encouraging students to dress up in creative ways. From Twin Day to Pajama Day, students demonstrated their enthusiasm for reading and math through their participation, creating a vibrant atmosphere in the hallways.

Daily trivia questions added excitement to the week, challenging students to showcase their knowledge of book characters. Each morning, the questions were announced over the intercom, and classes submitted their responses. The names of participating classes were prominently displayed at the school's entrance.

Guest readers volunteered in classrooms throughout the week, bringing stories to life and inspiring students to dive into books with renewed excitement.

One of the highlights of the week was the Starbooks Cafe, hosted by third and fifth grade students. The school's atrium transformed into a cozy reading nook where students enjoyed a snack while exploring their favorite stories. The cafe also served as an opportunity for students to collect data for future math projects by surveying participants about their favorite characters and reading habits.

On Tuesday night, the school welcomed more than 130 families for a literacy and math event. Families enjoyed green eggs and ham, participated in a math scavenger hunt and tackled an escape room challenge that tested their problem-solving skills. A book walk sponsored by the PTA distributed new titles to families.

Students also reinforced their skills through reading and math games. A popular attraction was the seven-hole mini putt-putt golf course set up in the information center, where families blended sports and learning in a playful environment.

Literacy and Math Week was a resounding success, underscoring the importance of reading, mathematics and community involvement. The week's engaging activities celebrated essential skills while strengthening the bond between families and the school, leaving students eager to continue their educational journeys.
