Administration

Dear Parents,

We hope this message finds you well. We have had an exciting week at our school and are thrilled to share some highlights and upcoming events with you.

Last Week:

  • Europe South Robotics Competition: We were honored to host this event, welcoming talented students from Vicenza and Sigonella. Our students showcased their impressive skills and teamwork, making us proud.
  • 5th Grade Ukulele Concert: Our 5th graders performed fantastically, demonstrating their musical talents and hard work. It was a delightful event for all who attended.

Upcoming Events:

  • Teacher Appreciation Week: With the help of our PTA, we have planned a series of events to celebrate and thank our dedicated teachers. We encourage all parents to participate and show their appreciation.
  • National School Nurses Day: We will celebrate National School Nurses Day this Wednesday and express our gratitude to Ms. Jami Mathews for her exceptional care and support to our students.
  • Parent University: Our Educational Technologist, Mr. Sexton, will host a session on Internet Safety this Wednesday. Parents may attend online or in person in Room 210. This is a valuable opportunity for parents to learn about keeping their children safe online.

Thank you for your continued support and involvement in our school community. We look forward to seeing you at these upcoming events.

Warm regards,

Mr. Rivera & Mrs. Rascoe

Grade-Level Highlights: A Peak into Our Week

PreK students will learn that pollen is a yellow powder found in flowers that causes them to make seeds that can then grow into new flowers, fruits, and vegetables. We will see that bees, birds, and butterflies help plants in the garden by pollinating them or moving pollen from one flower to another. We will also learn that aphids are a ‘pest’ or an insect that causes damage to plants. But insects like ladybugs are helpful and eat aphids.

Kindergarten will be travelling to Lo Zoo di Napoli on Wednesday, May 7. We will depart school at 8:30 and plan to return at approximately 1:15. Please check your email for specifics on what to send with your child on this exciting day!

In language arts, students will take the Benchmark Advance end-of-year assessment over 3 days. Students took this assessment earlier in the school year, and we are excited to see their growth throughout kindergarten. This will also give us a few weeks to reteach and review skills that are not securely held knowledge. We are starting unit 9 and will begin to explore long vowel sounds over the next few weeks. This week we will focus on a_e spelling pattern. The e at the end makes the vowel (a) say its name and make the long a sound. We call this the silent e or magic e.

Examples of words: cane, wave, tape.

In math, we will continue to expose students to numbers up to 100 and practice counting from a given number. Try this at home with your child. We will also continue to reteach, review, and extend addition and subtraction depending on the needs of each class.

In writing, we will start working on our books for our Booknic events at the beginning of June. Your child’s teacher will send out more info with a specific date and time for her class.

1st Grade Blurb for the Week of May 5th  to May 9th

Next week in ELA, we will begin Unit 8: Why do the sun and moon capture our imagination?

    Phonics Sound: r-controlled vowel:  /är/

Shared reading: Why the Sun and the Moon Live in the Sky

    Writing: Write a key event

    Grammar: Use pronouns

In math, we continue in our measurement unit, and health, we will work on Unit 10: Run, Jump, and Skip.

If you have specific questions, please get in touch with your child’s teacher.

This week, 3rd Grade have worked hard to demonstrate their learning in our end-of-year district summative assessments. Students arrived prepared and confident to apply what they’ve learned this year. Great job, 3rd Grade! Amid all the hard work and concentration, 3rd Grade went on a fantastic field trip!  Thanks to our chaperones and Scopriamo la Nostra Terra staff for a great time. We had a fun-filled day in the sunshine digging for artifacts, learning how to light a fire, twist fibers to make twine, create clay bowls, grind wheat into flour, and try some bow and arrow action.

    Next week

    • We have our last summative (ELA) on Monday, May 5th, so please make sure your student arrives with a fully charged Chromebook!
